Every year, Michelin Guide inspectors update their lists of the best restaurants to dine in, and this year they added three Los Angeles restaurants to their 2023 Michelin Guide to California.
Six new restaurants were added to the California guide this year, and three of them are in the City of Los Angeles.
Getting a place in the Michelin Guide is a restaurant’s dream. It’s a coveted list that some of the world’s highest quality restaurants take pride in.
It all started in 1889 in central France when two brothers, Andre and Edouard Michelin, founded their tire company. They opened it with ideas to help the growth of the French automobile industry.
To help drivers plan their trips and help boost car sales, the brothers put together a guidebook that included maps, places to refuel, shelter and a list of places to eat.
After growing up and serving as an influential guide, the Michelin brothers decided to create a team of mystery diners or inspectors to help visit and review restaurants anonymously.
In 1926, the guide began awarding stars to restaurants which became known as “Michelin Stars”. In 1936, the criteria for star ratings were published.
To this day, the Michelin Stars and the inclusion of your restaurant in a Michelin Guide continue to be one of the highest culinary recognitions.
