xbox recently launched Project Amplify in an industry-wide effort to attract young Black people to STEM careers within the gaming industry, and the initiative comes at the same time as National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) week. The issue of race in video games has been a constant point of contention for the industry, with companies like EA coming under fire in the past for refusing to cast a black lead in games. Project Amplify comes after a recent survey by HBCU Connect found that interest in the gaming industry among Black college students was significantly higher compared to the number of Black people currently employed in the industry. The Xbox news site released the trailer for Project Amplify, which can also be found on the ID@Xbox YouTube channel. It provides a way for those in the industry to tell their own stories in hopes of passing on their knowledge. The education and knowledge of these roles that are communicated to young black professionals who start in video games is the highest ambition of the project.

To start the Amplify Project, xbox has decided to associate with the event Revolt Summit x AT&T on September 24 and 25, where the company will host industry panels and provide networking opportunities in order to reach a larger, younger audience. The event itself promises to host a wide range of professionals and figures within the Hip Hop culture, seeking to provide opportunities for the audience to develop the necessary skills to enter various industries and occupations. Hopefully getting this support from Microsoft, sometimes called the Disney of video games, will be a boon to the event and help you reach your target audience more effectively.
The gaming industry has continued to grow in modern times and remains an attractive destination for young professionals. However, the problem of racial disparity in higher education persists, and this also applies to the video game industry.
