The Savage Forecast: Flint Area Football Match Prediction for Week 5

FLINT – Week 5 of the high school football season is almost here and we have 19 games on the Flint area schedule.

We have a couple with potential championship implications, like Lapeer at Saginaw Heritage and Goodrich at Corunna.

Our best pick last week was Swartz Creek 27-21 over Fenton. The Dragons won 26-23.

In the past week: 14-4 (.778)

Season: 70-23 (.753)

Now, this week’s picks:

Grand Blanc (2-2) at East Lansing (4-0)

The Bobcats won a 40-34 shootout over East Lansing on opening day last year at Atwood Stadium. They have had ups and downs this season and are coming off a 48-0 road win over Traverse City West. East Lansing, on the other hand, beat DeWitt 36-30 last week. DeWitt played in the last two Division 3 championship games, winning two years ago.

Prediction: East Lansing 32, Grand Blanc 28

Hamady (4-0) at Beecher (2-2)

This is usually good between two neighborhood rivals. Hamady has won four of the last five meeting with Beecher and it looks like the Hawks could have something special as they have outscored opponents by an average of 52-7.

Prediction: Hamady 42, Beecher 21

Holly (2-2) at Fenton (2-2)

Fenton has dominated the all-time series with his close rival, posting a 48-17 record against the Broncos. They’re not going to be in a good mood after losing 26-23 to Swartz Creek last week.

Prediction: Fenton 31, Holly 20

Linden (3-1) at Flushing (2-2)

Both teams are 1-1 in the Stripes Division of the Flint Metro League and need a win to keep their championship hopes alive. Flushing beat Kearsley 42-14 last week after being outscored by Fenton 21-19 two weeks ago. Linden’s only loss was 6-0 to Goodrich three weeks ago, so the Eagles are one TD away from going undefeated.

Prediction: linden 27, blush 20

La Coruna (4-0) to Goodrich (3-1)

First place in the Metro League All-Star Division will be up for grabs. Both teams are 2-0 in the league. Expect a defensive battle. Corunna has posted consecutive shutouts, while Goodrich has allowed six points in his last three games. This is a coin toss game.

Prediction: La Coruna 20, Goodrich 19

Lapeer (4-0) at Saginaw Heritage (3-1)

This has potential championship implications, as both teams are near the top of the Saginaw Valley South League standings. Heritage is coming off a surprising 56-20 loss to Davison. Lapeer is still undefeated after surviving an unearned Carman-Ainsworth scare that led 24-7 in the third quarter before the Lightning rallied to win 36-30.

Prediction: Lapeer 29, Heritage 27

Prediction: Bendle 38, Flint 12

Prediction: Bentley 26, Flint Elite 6
