Following the plot of the original novel, Astronaut follows the adventure of a Czech astronaut, Jakub. A middle-aged, middle-class man, and the first astronaut from an independent nation, Jakub is sent on a mission to reach a mysterious clump of space dust and prove it. But he is not comfortable with space travel and also misses his wife back home. Jakub then encounters a mysterious (hopefully friendly) creature aboard his spaceship, leading him on an adventure of the sort that makes the Netflix movie summary. When and where is Spaceman filmed?
Filming for the sci-fi adventure film began in April 2021, and the film’s title was changed to Astronaut of the original title taken from the novel. Principal photography took place in New York City, and production moved to the Czech Republic, where it wrapped in July 2021.
