After his critically acclaimed film The fatherthe director trailer Florian Zeller newest Movie, The sonstarring hugh jackman, has been released and teases a family drama at the center of its story. The trailer was uploaded to Twitter by Jackman himself. in a tweet in which he affirms that he has the honor to present, before receiving a wide communication.
The trailer showcases the actor’s acting talents as his character, Peter, must adapt to that of his son Nicholas (zen mcgrath) stay with him after being left by his mother Kate (Laura Dern). Academy Award-winning actor anthony hawkins, reteaming with the film’s director, also appears in the trailer in conflict with Peter, although the specific reason is unknown. However, while Nicholas’ stay may not seem all that bad, it’s likely that tension will start to build between the characters as the trailer shows the conflict between Nicholas and Beth, Peter’s current partner, played by vanessa kirby.
Dern’s acting is also on full display as he is able to express the regret his character faces through his acting. The trailer does an effective job of showing what will be the main sense of conflict between Peter and his son, Nicholas. This is especially shown in the scene where Peter says that everything is fine at home, as it contrasts with him yelling in anger. The trailer also shows off some potential flashback scenes that are portrayed in a positive light, which could serve as a stark contrast to the current situation the characters face as they reminisce about the past through the lens of nostalgia.
The son is directed by Zeller and is co-written by him and Christopher Hampton. Zeller previously directed The father which opened to critical acclaim and garnered multiple accolades, including an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture. The film also starred Hopkins and earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor. Featuring a new movie from the acclaimed filmmaker that pokes fun at a family drama at the heart of his story, The son could be a potentially heartbreaking movie for audiences when it opens in theaters later this year.
The son will premiere at this year’s Venice International Film Festival on September 7. The film will then have a limited theatrical release on November 11 before expanding to more theaters. Check out the official trailer and synopsis for the movie below:
