One Piece Film: Red is riding a wave of success at the box office, and the film has received a new trailer to mark the occasion.
Streamed through the official One Piece YouTube channel on September 5, the trailer provides a synopsis of the film’s story and some key dialogue from its protagonists. The latter includes series mainstays such as Monkey D. Luffy, Strawhat’s team, and Red Hair Shanks, as well as the original character Uta.
The trailer begins by noting one of the film’s greatest achievements. Since its release, it has grossed over 10 billion yen at the Japanese box office, making it the first One Piece movie to do so, as well as the best-selling One Piece movie ever. This is before it’s even been released in the West, which is bound to help the film’s worldwide gross rise even higher.
The trailer then cuts to clips of the characters, beginning with Uta’s introduction during a flashback. She says that it is the music of the Red Hair Pirates and that she will build a new genesis of freedom for all. However, before he can give an example of his singing abilities, the trailer shows a scene of Luffy wondering what happened to Uta, only for Shanks to reply that he left to become a musician.
This is followed by another cut, which moves to a scene of Uta crying in the middle of a burning city and angrily yelling at Shanks.
The trailer then cuts to scenes from the present, where Uta is using an unknown power to make her ambitions come true. So it’s up to the Straw Hats and the Red Haired Pirates to stop her, and each side intends to stop Uta for reasons that aren’t entirely clear yet. All of this occurs as songs linked to Uta’s characters play, and hints of the film’s final conflict uncover her head.
It’s a good snippet of what the movie offers, as well as being a good tip of the hat for the movie’s success. Fans who haven’t seen the movie yet will want to check it out in its entirety below.
