Prey (2022) continues to impress viewers and fans of the Predator franchise while streaming on Hulu and Disney+, while also wowing critics and breaking streaming records. The film is the seventh entry in the long Predator franchise, while also serving as the first prequel.

Unlike other projects led by women in recent years, such as Ghostbusters: answer the call (2016), and most recently the Disney+ show Marvel She-Hulk: Lawyer (2022), Prey should be applauded for creating a strong and likable lead without the use of toxic gender politics.
In fact, actress Amber Midthunder, who plays Naru in the latest Predator sequel, recently defended the fact that the film stars women, noting that it’s not “some kind of super-awakened, F-the-patriarchy story,” in that it’s “not a girl who defies what men They say she can and can’t do it.”

And, of course, you are absolutely right. However, some fans are still unconvinced that his character can take on a Predator, which is largely due to the fact that he doesn’t have an arsenal of modern weapons at his disposal.
Now, in an interview with Radio 1s Screen Time Podcast, Prey Director Dan Trachtenberg has addressed this criticism and has suggested that it could be because some fans “misremembered” certain elements about the original 1987 film.

This is what he said:
“There was a very strange reaction, too, to…it’s almost a Mandela Effect thing the way people don’t remember the original film. […] But I never really wanted to correct that thought, because it helps the movie. This movie is more exciting the more you feel like, ‘How is he going to pull this off?’ […] I’m happy that people think that way, even if you think a little bit more about Predator, the end of that movie is where she starts, you know? Like I ended up in a place where all the Comanches have this knowledge base that Arnold has to fall back on, so… But he made me glad that people forgot that. I think people remember Predator as, ‘The guys with the big guns fight the thing,’ you know?

While many refuse to believe that Naru could wield a Predator, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character Dutch is ultimately stripped of those modern weapons and must rely on his surroundings to forge weapons and defeat his enemy, much like the Comanches. .
And then there’s the catchphrase of Prey: She hunt for a living… it’s lives to hunt. Let’s not forget that this is what Naru has been doing all of his life, so it’s not like he suddenly knows how to use tomahawks and bows when he finally faces the Predator.
It should also be noted that the alien antagonist in this movie is much less advanced than the one Dutch faces.
