People Have Got Goosebumps After Watching The Horrifying New Documentary Victim/Suspect on Netflix.
The latest addition to the streaming platform is giving viewers an extremely visceral reaction considering the heartbreaking theme.
Since then, Netflix users have taken to social media to share how disturbed they were by the unapologetic documentary. Watch the trailer:
Directed by Nancy Schwartzman, the documentary chronicles journalist Rae de Leon’s investigation into a shocking national pattern in which women report sexual assault but are not believed.
The official synopsis reads: “Young women tell police they have been sexually assaulted, but instead of finding justice, they are accused of the crime of making a false report, arrested and even jailed by the system they believed would protect them. .”
In the Netflix film, Leon’s investigation seeks to uncover and examine the pattern in question while unraveling the real-life nightmare using actual footage of the victims in police custody along with witness testimony.
According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), an American non-profit organization against sexual assault, the largest in the United States, only 310 out of 1,000 sexual assaults are reported to the police.
That means that more than two thirds are not reported.
And, of every 1,000 attacks, 975 perpetrators will go free.
Given these frightening statistics, it seems unsurprising that of the crimes of sexual violence that were not reported to the police between 2005 and 2010, 15 percent of victims said they did not report it because they believed the police could not or would not Do nothing. help.
Viewers have since flocked to Twitter to share their reactions to the chilling film and the disturbing truth about the legal system it highlights.
