NVYAA searches for those responsible for destroying its fields

The North Vermilion Junior Athletic Association (NVYAA) is calling on the community to help identify the people who recently vandalized their fields.

The park, which serves as a vital hub for NVYAA sports activities, suffered extensive damage when unknown perpetrators drove a truck and an all-terrain vehicle through soccer fields, leaving deep ruts in their wake.

NVYAA is an organization that strives to provide affordable sports opportunities to children in the community. With no outside funding, they rely on registration fees and fundraising efforts to maintain the park and its facilities. The remaining funds are reinvested in the park to enhance the experience for all participants. Recent improvements included repairs to the parking lot, ensuring easier access for all visitors.

The recent act of vandalism has left NVYAA dispirited and concerned about the impact it will have on the children they serve. The destructive actions of a few individuals were actually so bad that the safety of soccer fields was compromised, making them unsuitable for playing.

Deep ruts and truck and ATV damage have made it impossible to properly repair the fields, leaving NVYAA with no choice but to relocate play areas for their upcoming 3v3 season.

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, NVYAA expressed its frustration and urged the public to come forward with any information that could help identify those responsible for the vandalism. They stressed the need to hold these individuals accountable for their actions, as the repercussions directly affect the children who use the park.

The impact of this senseless act extends beyond inconvenience; hinders NVYAA’s ability to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for youth sports. Relocating playgrounds means additional work for the dedicated volunteers who maintain the park and can compromise the quality of play for the young athletes who look forward to playing each season.

NVYAA is committed to its community and instills positive values through sport, and acts of vandalism like this go against everything they stand for. By communicating with the public, they hope to receive any information that can help identify those responsible and bring them to justice to hold them accountable for their actions.

The community shared their disappointment, with some even offering to help repair damaged fields.
