Former Indian starter Virender Sehwag has opened up about a critical factor of the Mumbai Indians’ batting line-up ahead of their Qualifier 2 clash against the Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on Friday, May 26. The winner of this match will face CSK in the IPL 2023 final.
Sehwag has spoken about Rohit Sharma’s hitting approach to the season. The MI skipper has not been in his best form this season. It has looked rough since the beginning of the season. He scored a timely half century in MI’s last league game over SRH. However, he couldn’t continue his good form as he came out cheap and fast in the next game.

Rohit Sharma, in his quest for more runs, delivered a straight to Ayush Badoni in coverages against Naveen-Ul-Haq in the Eliminator against LSG. Sehwag criticized Rohit for his shot selection despite picking up 30 runs in the first three overs and getting off to a good start.

“I’m not happy with his hitting. He is trying to do many things. If he’s already scored 30 runs in three overs, why would he try to score another 20 in the next over? If he stands there, he’ll still get fumbles. What he’s doing, is, he’s trying to force himself to hit four and six on good drives. He is dating and dating. If he waits, he shows patience, he will reward him. Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

Also, he urged Rohit Sharma to have a bit of patience as he hits the crease.

Rohit Sharma needs to have some patience: Virender Sehwag
“The day he scored 57 runs, he wasn’t going after the bowlers. Muralitharan says one thing, whether you are a batsman or a bowler, you have to be patient. So Rohit needs to show some patience. If you’re chasing a score of 200+, that’s a different thing. But you’re batting first, give yourself time. So, I’m not very happy with his hitting right now.” he further said.
The MI skipper has scored 324 runs so far this season at an average of 21.60 and a strike rate of 133.33. Rohit has his last 400+ season in the IPL in 2019. A win against GT will see Rohit Sharma and MI go for their sixth IPL title in the final.
