‘No MS Dhoni, I’d point the finger at the refs’: Sunil Gavaskar on MS Dhoni’s time wasting tactics

sunil gavaskar, a former heavy hitter, has cleared MS Dhoni of any wrongdoing over the CSK captain’s altercation with the referees in IPL Qualifier 1. Gavaskar has criticized the game’s referees for their conduct.

On Tuesday May 23, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni had an on-field disagreement with the referees during his team’s match against the Gujarat Titans. Dhoni argued with the referees in the over 16 match of the Indian Premier League Qualifier 1 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

However, an event played in the 15th over the second inning dampened the game slightly. CSK captain MS Dhoni got into a lively discussion with the referees, which included other players. Matheesha Pathirana, the man assigned to bowling, was not yet certified as he had been out of the field for some time. However, because the talk lasted over four minutes, the Sri Lankan bowler had exceeded the time limit, allowing him to remain active with the ball after his brief outing.

Legendary batsman Sunil Gavaskar offered his perspective on the situation to India Today and suggested that the umpires throughout the game should have been stricter.

“I think we have been taught all along to accept the referee’s decision. Obviously, you can ask for clarification, and that’s clearly what Dhoni was doing, asking for clarification. My opinion is that, instead of looking at what Dhoni did, you have to look at what the referees did.” Gavaskar said in an interview with IndiaToday.

“Maybe since it was MS Dhoni, they complied with him and started talking to him, but if it was anyone else they would have gone to his position and set off. And that’s what they should have done. Gavaskar pondered.

“I would not point a finger at MS Dhoni” – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar, a former India captain, argued that the referees should be investigated in this case instead of MS Dhoni.

“I wouldn’t point a finger at MS Dhoni and ask the ref why they took so long to figure out anything. You don’t know exactly what happened, no one has come out of the way and clarified what had happened. The referees, to a large extent, should have been firm ”, Sunil Gavaskar said.

“By the time CSK got to 170, the release slowed down. It was clear that with the resources at his disposal, Dhoni was going to make it look like 190. That’s what great captains do.” Sunil Gavaskar said.
