NJ TRANSIT ANNOUNCES SPECIAL RAIL SERVICE FOR FAR HILLS RACE MEETING | NJ TRANSIT | New Jersey Transit Corporation

Customers are strongly recommended to purchase roundtrip tickets in advance

NEWARK, New Jersey— NJ TRANSIT offers special rail service between Hoboken and Far Hills to transport customers to and from the 101St. Far Hills Race Meeting on Saturday, October 15. Please note that on October 15, the Gladstone branch will only provide rail service to/from the Far Hills Race Meeting. The rest of the time, Lakeland bus service will replace trains on the Gladstone Branch. NJ TRANSIT’s Far Hills Station on the Gladstone Branch of the Morris and Essex Lines is located directly across from Moorland Farms, the venue for the event.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For this special event, customers are recommended to NO DRINKS INCLUDING ALCOHOL, OPEN OR CLOSED, WILL BE ALLOWED on any train, bus or platform to and from Far Hills on Saturday, October 15. This policy will be strictly enforced.

To avoid lines, customers are strongly advised to purchase round-trip tickets in advance. Discharge NJ TRANSIT Mobile App. Customers boarding at Far Hills on October 15 without a valid ticket or pass will need to purchase a special ticket prior to boarding the train for $20. The special ticket is valid until 11:59 pm on October 15 only for travel between Far Hills and any NJ TRANSIT rail station.

On October 15, box offices will be open regular hours in Hoboken, Summit and Dover. The Lyons Box Office will have special hours on October 15. Temporary ticket offices will be set up in Berkeley Heights, Bernardsville, Far Hills and Gladstone with special opening hours. Visit www.njtransit.com for specific times.

Program highlights for October 15 include:

  • As is normal with travel to/from special events, train capacity may vary depending on when customers decide to travel. Customers should allow additional travel time and be patient if they cannot board the first train they come across.
  • Traveling to Far Hills:
    • Trains will depart Hoboken at least once an hour from 7:31 a.m. to 11:20 a.m., with more frequent service between 8:39 a.m. and 10:35 a.m.
    • Trains will depart Summit at least once an hour from 8:14 a.m. to 1:14 p.m., with more frequent service from approximately 9:10 a.m. to 11:20 a.m.
  • Traveling from Far Hills:
    • Trains may depart Far Hills as they fill up, but the last train of the day will depart Far Hills no earlier than 7:03 p.m.
  • There will be no rail service to or from the Peapack and Gladstone stations. Frequent shuttle bus service (operated by Lakeland Bus Company) will operate between Gladstone, Peapack and Far Hills throughout the day. Buses will operate at least every 30 minutes, but may operate more frequently if warranted by customer demand.

Important travel tips

  • Customers must give themselves enough time to reach their final destination.
  • Due to the large number of anticipated passengers, customers are strongly advised to buy roundtrip tickets in advance to avoid queues.
  • Bicycles are not permitted on Gladstone Branch trains on this day.
  • Parking will be prohibited at the Far Hills station between 6 am and 9 pm on Saturday, October 15. The parking lot will be used for Far Hills Race Meeting shuttle operations.
