The Iowa Cubs lost to the Columbus Clippers 10-7
The offense showed up in this one, but after the starter was only able to pitch 3.1 innings, the bullpen couldn’t find its footing. They pitched the next 5.2 innings and allowed eight runs with each reliever allowing at least one run in their sub-two inning performance. There was a lot I liked and a lot I didn’t.
Nick Madrigal (3B) it was spectacular again. He went 1-2 with a double, three walks and a run scored. There has to be a place for it on a list that still finds a place for Edwin Rios and Miles Mastrobuoni.
Brennen Davis (OF) I finally put a line that makes me happy to write about. He went 5 for 2 with his seventh double of the season and two RBIs. He also got a field assist on defense, so it was a great all-around game for the former top prospect.
jonathan perlaza (OF) he went 2-5 with a home run, a run scored, and two RBIs.
David Boat (2B) appeared today. Most people have forgotten about Bote, but he’s been in Iowa toiling away in silence. He went 3-3, just one triple of the cycle, and also walked twice while driving in two runs and scoring three himself.
riley thompson (R.H.P.) he started the game and allowed two earned runs in 3.1 innings on five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Brendon Little (LHP) he pitched the next 1.2 innings and was considerably worse. He allowed three earned runs on two walks and struck out only one.
keegan thompson (R.H.P.) He still hasn’t found his controller. He went 1.2 innings, allowed two earned runs on one hit, but walked five and struck out four.
Bailey Horn (LHP) he continued the trend of Iowa relievers allowing runs as he lasted 1.1 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
The Tennessee Smokies defeated the Chattanooga Lookouts 5-4
The Smokies played almost the complete opposite game from the Iowa Cubs. The offense was not very strong with the top three in the lineup reaching base seven times and the bottom six in the lineup only being able to reach base five times. That being said, the result was also the opposite as the Smokies got the win due to some great bullpen performance.
Pete Crow-Armstrong (OF) He kept demanding a promotion yesterday. He went 2-4 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Owen Caissie (OF) he went 0-2 but drew two walks.
Luis Vazquez (H.H) he went 3-4 with three singles and two RBIs.
kohl franklin (R.H.P.) it was solid yesterday. He allowed two earned runs in five innings on three hits and one walk while striking out three.
big hunter (R.H.P.) he went a scoreless, hitless inning in the eighth.
Riley Martin (LHP) he finished the game with authority. He pitched a scoreless, hitless ninth inning and struck out three.
The South Bend Cubs lost to the Fort Wayne TinCaps 8-2
Today was an absolute struggle. The performances we’d come to expect from the South Bend stars were nowhere to be found and the role players didn’t help much either. It was nice to see a former great prospect put together a multi-hit game, but the season numbers still leave a lot to be desired. Let’s move on from this quickly.
christian franklin (OF) he went 2-4 with two singles, raising his season batting average to .224.
Fabian Pertuz (3B) he was the offensive player of the game for the Cubs as they went 2-3 with a solo home run and hit by pitch.
manuel espinoza (R.H.P.) He is obviously human. He went four innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out four. His ERA is still just 1.80 for the season, but this is the first time this year that he hasn’t completely dominated the opposition.
eduarniel nunez (R.H.P.) he pitched a scoreless eighth inning, drawing a walk and a hit, while also striking out one.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans defeated the Salem Red Sox 6-3
This was a good victory for the team. Several bats put in a solid performance with the guys at the top of the order showing why they should be hitting so high, while the starting pitcher was utterly dominant. There was a bit of a scare in the middle innings, but the Pelicans closed the door in the ninth for the win.
rafael morel (CF/SS) he went 1-4 with a double while playing center field and shortstop in east.
Moses Ballesteros (C) he went 3-4 with a double, two singles, an RBI and a run scored, bringing his season average to .268.
Reivaj Garcia (3B) he went 1-3 with two RBI, a stolen base and a run scored.
jeson santana (2B) he went 2-4 with one run scored and raised his batting average for the year to .389.
Parker Chavers (OF) he went 2-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
pedro ramirez (DH) he continued his recovery when he went 2-3 with a stolen base and two runs scored at DH.
brody mccullough (R.H.P.) he was an absolute monster yesterday. He went five scoreless innings and allowed just one hit and two walks while striking out nine Red Sox.
Johzan Oquendo (R.H.P.) he pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two walks, but struck out three to earn the save and hold the Red Sox scoreless in his appearance.
