The latest synopsis for the upcoming MCU sequel, guardians of the galaxy vol. 3, spells bad news for Rocket. Written and directed by James Gunn, guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 will see the return of the main cast, many of whom will play their respective Marvel superheroes for the last time. James Gunn knew he had to tell the story of Rocket
Director James Gunn, who has directed all three installments of the Guardians of the GalaxyI had known for some time that the third outing would focus on Rocket Raccoon. “I’ll just say that Rocket is a big part of what’s going to happen in the future, and a lot of these things (like the scars we’re about to see on his back) set up what I’ve been planning for Rocket all along.” Gunn said in 2020.
Feeling he owed it to the character to return for one last installment, Gunn revealed in December of last year that Rocket has always been the “secret lead” of the series to him. Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. “One of the reasons why I returned to [make] this movie was because I felt like I needed to tell the story of Rocket. It would have been very sad not to complete the trilogy for many reasons, but I feel very connected to Rocket,” he explained. “I feel like no one would be able to tell the full story of him if it wasn’t for me. For me, Rocket has always been the secret protagonist of the Guardians movies. From the beginning, it’s been ingrained into who he is as a character. I think he exemplifies many of the traits of all Guardians. They’ve had all these traumas, and that brings them together. I just think his is more extreme than others.”
guardians of the galaxy vol. 3 is scheduled to be released on May 5, 2023, as part of Phase Five of the MCU.
