With awards season fast approaching, it’s about time we take a look at the contenders, and White noise it’s a big one. Noah Baumbach completely transcended his mumblecore origins with the critically acclaimed marriage story (Not to mention the Adam Driver memes.) And with Netflix backing it once again, it looks like the latest will hit the awards circuit as well.
The movie certainly has a lot going for it: Adam Driver is back, along with Baumbach’s real-life partner Greta Gerwig. There’s also the potential for an interesting change of pace for the usually low-key director, with the introduction of an apocalyptic twist. Best bunker for this one.
Here’s everything we know about White noise so far.
What is White noise on?
Based on Don DeLillo’s 1985 novel of the same name. White noise it is a satirical version of family and academic life. Jack Gladney (Conductor) is a Hitler studies professor living in a Midwestern town with his fourth wife, Babette (Gerwig) and their Many kids. Both Jack and Babette are very scared of death and are forced to face their mortality when an “airborne toxic event” hits their area.
The official synopsis is aptly vague, describing the film as “hilarious and horrifying, lyrical and absurd, ordinary and apocalyptic.” Keep going:
Baumbach’s films have always been fairly humble, focusing more on the dynamics and intimate absurdities of reality, so it will be fascinating to see if his sensibilities remain intact while throwing disaster into the mix.
who is in the White noise to emit?
The film sees Adam Driver go into full father mode with a receding hairline. The actor is no stranger to a Baumbach movie, as he earned an Oscar nomination for breaking a wall (among other impressive feats) in marriage story. Driver has also racked up a number of charming secondary twists in his previous collaborations: Frances has, While we are young Y The Meyerowitz stories.
The film also marks Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited return to acting since she took to the camera for her highly praised directorial efforts. lady bird Y Little woman. The pair’s collaborations have been consistently charming. Case in point: her aimless ballerina in the perennial favorite of moviegoers Frances has (which she co-wrote) and aspiring social climber from america lover. White noise it certainly marks a departure from the fantasy of those two movies, but Gerwig’s presence can only be a positive.
