TWIN CITIES, MN — Due to extremely icy conditions in the region Wednesday morning, Metro Transit removed its buses from all Twin Cities highways.
Several metropolitan area school districts have also delayed classes by two hours or more.
The Minnesota State Patrol already responded to dozens of accidents Wednesday morning. Between 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, soldiers responded to 120 crashes, including 10 with injuries.
The patrol also responded to 116 vehicle rollover incidents and 19 damaged semi-trucks during that time period.
“And it’s not just driving that will be treacherous,” the National Weather Service said. “Do you usually walk the dog in the morning or go for a quick run? Make sure you have extra grip on your shoes as the sidewalks are also very icy and dangerous!”
Looking ahead, Minnesotans can expect a January thaw this weekend.
