Marvel Comics and China’s Internet and online gaming service provider NetEase Games will team up in October and November for a series of variant covers featuring illustrations of the Marvel Duel mobile game.
According to the publisher, the 20-plus covers are a “diverse collection” representing every corner of the Marvel Universe, from the Avengers to the X-Men. And Marvel could really mean it this time around because Newsarama can’t recall Redwing ever appearing on a variant cover…let alone a previous cover.
NetEase was in the news for another reason on August 31, for its acquisition of Paris-based game developer Quantic Dream, which is currently developing a High Republic-era Star Wars game titled Star Wars Eclipse, as well as an “underwater poetic adventure”. game titled Under the Waves.
NetEase’s acquisition of Quantic Dream gives the Chinese game service provider its first European studio.
