Judgments and fines from the Fort St. John and Dawson Creek Provincial Courts

• Trenton Kelsey Amos Fox (born 1997) was sentenced to 78 days in jail with one year probation and ordered to produce a DNA sample for assault with a weapon, 28 days in jail for breach of probation, and 28 days in jail for breach of release warrants committed at Fort St. John in November 2022. Fox was sentenced to 14 days in jail for breach of probation at Fort St. John at Fort St. John in November 2022.

•Brandie Marie Youngberg (born 1985) was fined $2000, placed on a two-year criminal ban from driving, and ordered to pay a $600 victim surcharge for driving while disabled under the Penal Code in Fort St. John in October month of criminal driving ban and ordered to pay a $300 victim surcharge for driving while disqualified under the Penal Code in Fort St. John August 2022.

• Jules Aric McCallum (born 1988) received a suspended sentence of eight months probation and ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge for mischief of $5000 or less and assaulting a peace officer at Fort St. John in February 2020 , and received a six-month suspended sentence of probation and was ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge for failure to comply with the release order at Fort St. John in July 2020. McCallum received a three-month suspended sentence, 18 months of probation, he was ordered to produce a DNA sample and ordered to pay a $100 victim surcharge for assault with a weapon at Fort St. John in November 2020.

•Robert James Hauber (born 1967) was fined $500, subject to forfeiture, placed on a three-year discretionary firearms ban, and ordered to pay a $75 victim surcharge for possessing a firearm without a license or registration in Chetwynd in January 2021.

• Wesley Lawrence Belcourt (born 1986) was sentenced to 14 days in jail, fined $750, and ordered to pay a $112.50 victim surcharge for driving while a driver’s license was suspended in Dawson Creek in January 2022.

• Zane Steven Joseph Whitford (born 2004) was awarded a $500 12-month award after being charged with causing fear of injury or property damage in Dawson Creek in May 2022. Whitford was awarded a $500 12-month award after the charge of causing fear of injury or property damage in Dawson Creek in July 2022.

• Connor Decosta-Blais (born 1999) was awarded a $500 12-month acknowledgment after being charged with causing fear of bodily injury or property damage in Dawson Creek in June 2021.

Judgment Notes

Suspended sentence: The judge sentences the defendant but suspends the sentence and instead releases the defendant under the conditions set out in a probation order.

Conditional sentence: The judge gives the defendant a jail term, but allows him to serve it in the community as long as he meets certain conditions. Often called house arrest.

Conditional discharge: The defendant’s file will not show a conviction if he meets the conditions that the judge establishes in a probation order.

Recognition after allegation: An agreement to keep the peace and be of good conduct when the court determines that there are reasonable grounds for a person to commit a crime.

Victim Surcharge: A fine imposed by judges at their discretion during sentencing that is intended to help victims of crime.
