The cast of the next joker 2officially titled Joker: Folie a Deuxcontinues to grow with the addition of Academy Award-nominated actress Catherine Keener in a secret role. Deadline brings news about Keener’s casting, noting that her role is being kept under wraps. Academy Award winner Joaquin Phoenix will return for the sequel, reprising his role as Arthur Fleck from the 2019 feature film. Phoenix will lead a cast that also includes co-star Zazie Beetz and newcomer Brendan Gleeson. Lady Gaga will also appear in the film, apparently playing a version of DC Comics’ Harley Quinn alongside Phoenix.
Though it’s unclear who Keener will be playing, the possibility that it will be someone from DC’s larger canon is certainly on the table. When Gleeson was first reported to have joined the cast, news later broke that he appears to be playing the warden or a security guard at Arkham Asylum. It was previously revealed that the upcoming film, which will incorporate musical elements into its content, will largely take place on DC’s iconic set. Keener could very well be another inmate at the asylum or perhaps a doctor trying to treat one of our potential clients.
