“I don’t want MI in IPL 2023 final” – Dwayne Bravo after CSK beat GT in qualifier 1

Dwayne Bravo, a former all-rounder and bowling coach for CSK, has clearly stated that they do not want the Mumbai Indians to reach the final. Bravo teased the CSK-MI rivalry by stating that the Super Kings are ready to take on any of the other three teams in the final.

Chennai Super Kings advanced to the IPL 2023 final with a dominating victory over the defending champions Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday in Chennai. CSK defeated Gujarat, the most prominent club in the league, to set the tone for the grand final.

Mumbai Indians defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs on Wednesday to advance to IPL 2023 Qualifier 2. Despite owning five IPL championships and a reputation for slow starts, MI is again on track to add to its trophy cabinet. The past two seasons have not been good, with a poor 10th-place performance in 2022 and a fifth-place finish in 2021.

MI raised concerns about another below-average season with two losses in their first two games this season. But they fought back as usual, winning three games in a row.

MI advanced to the second ranked even though the league stages remain unpredictable for them as a result of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s loss to Gujarat Titans, allowing them to qualify for the playoffs.

I’m afraid of Mumbai Indians: Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo, CSK’s bowling coach, has made it very clear that they do not want the Mumbai Indians to reach the championship game. In the 2013-2015 and 2019 IPL finals, CSK suffered three losses against MI. Bravo participated in the three finals but lost all of them. Also, MI hold a superior record in their 36 head-to-head meetings with CSK, having won 20 of those games.

“No, I am afraid of Mumbai (laughs). We don’t see it that way. The other three teams are dangerous teams. They are quality teams.” Dwayne Bravo told Star Sports after CSK’s 15-run win over Gujarat.

“Yeah, I mean, honestly, my personal feeling, I don’t want Mumbai. My friend Pollard knows it. But jokes aside, all the best to the other teams. We look forward to whoever we are going to face. I think we have it.” Dwayne Bravo added.

If the Mumbai Indians make it to the final, Bravo would face his good friend Kieron Pollard, who is the hitting coach. Dwayne Bravo’s light-hearted comment highlights MI’s IPL dominance over CSK over the years. The two clubs have met in the final four times, with Mumbai winning three times, including 2013, 2015 and 2019, and CSK winning their first meeting in a final in 2010.
