The playoffs are here for the 2022 Women’s World Championship, and Team USA comes out on top. After posting a perfect 4-0-0-0, the Americans are set to play Hungary in the tournament quarterfinals on Thursday.
For the most part, the United States made quick work of their opponents during group play. In the first three games, the Americans posted victories over Japan, Finland and Switzerland, outscoring the opposition by a staggering 25-1.
Most recently, the US defeated rival Canada 5-2 to finish the preliminary round and claim first place in Group A. It is the first step for the team to avenge the gold medal loss to Canada in 2021. .

Hungary had four competitive games of group play, eventually finishing in third place in Group B and grabbing last place in the quarterfinals. The team only won a single game, a victory over Germany to start the tournament, before losing three games in a row to the Czech Republic, Denmark and Sweden. However, thanks to an extra point earned in the penalty shootout loss to Sweden, the team was able to finish ahead of Denmark and Germany in the standings.
While the team has played decently defensively, Hungary is struggling on the offensive end. In four matches, the club managed just seven goals and possess the worst shooting percentage so far in the tournament, reaching the quarter-finals with a shooting percentage of 5.88.
The winner of this contest advances to the semifinals, while the loser will have to play placement games to determine the final ranking of the tournament.
