(5) ONS JABEUR vs. AJLA TOMLJANOVIC
Jabeur is having his best run on hard court. The Tunisian star arrived in New York after falling in the Wimbledon final and has his sights set on reaching another Grand Slam final. So far, he has been exceptional, dropping just one set in his first four matches.
Like Jabeur, Tomljanovic is giving his best at this year’s US Open. After reaching the third round at a hard court Grand Slam for the first time in her career, Tomljanovic stunned everyone by defeating Serena Williams. This will be the Australian’s third major quarter-final appearance, as she has reached the final eight at Wimbledon in each of the last two tournaments.
Jabeur and Tomljanovic have only met once before, with the Tunisian beating the Australian at the Italian Open in May.
(12) COCO GAUFFvs. (17) CAROLINE GARCIA
Since Serena is no longer in the tournament, fan favorite honors fall on the shoulders of Coco Gauff. At the age of 18, Gauff is the youngest player since 2009 to reach the quarterfinals of the US Open. The youngster has looked strong so far, not having dropped a set in four rounds.
Garcia is trying to get past the quarterfinals at a major for the first time in his career. While she is putting on the best US Open performance of her career, the Frenchwoman is making her second career Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance of hers, and first since the US Open. France of 2017.
The two met in a pair of singles matches in the last calendar year, with Gauff winning both, including a straight-set victory at the Qatar Open in February.

(1) IGA SWIATEK vs. (8) JESSICA PEGULA
A heavyweight matchup for one of four spots in the semifinals.
Swiatek hasn’t been known for her hard-court play, but she came to Queens as a favorite after reaching the semi-finals at the Australian Open in January. The World No.1 was advancing in the tournament before dropping the first set to Jule Niemeier in the fourth round on Monday. However, she persevered, winning 12 of the next 16 games, earning her ticket to her fifth Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance, and first at the US Open.
Without a doubt, Pegula is making strides forward in what is arguably her best performance at a Grand Slam. After falling in the third round at Wimbledon, Pegula has been nearly unstoppable in New York, dropping just one set en route to his fourth Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance.
Swiatek is 2-1 in individual competition against Pegula, with both wins coming this year. After beating the American at the Miami Open in March, Swiatek cruised to a straight-sets victory in the French Open quarterfinals on his way to her second major title.
