The hottest debate of the Call of Duty League offseason will finally see a resolution. Over the past few weeks, CDL and Warzone pros have been going back and forth about which side could transition to the other scene. For example, Warzone pros think they could compete in CDL if they practiced enough, but CDL pros couldn’t become Warzone pros. Rather, the CDL community maintains that the opposite is true, often citing the fact that OpTic Texas’ Seth “Scump” Abner outlasted a lobby of Warzone pros to win the Warzone World Series Solo Championship. 2021. After weeks of debate and even a few 1v1 matches, fans will finally have an answer as to which group of pros is more talented.
OpTic Gaming creator Davis “Hitch” Edwards has announced that it will release a professional 4v4 CDL tournament vs. Warzone this Wednesday, August 31. The tournament will cost $10,000 and will feature eight teams; four teams of Warzone professionals and the other four made up of CDL players. Teams will battle each other in a best-of-five pool series to ultimately determine a winner. The series will have the following format:
- Hardpoint modern warfare
- Oddman’s Cauldron 2v2
- Hardpoint modern warfare
- Oddman’s Cauldron 2v2
- Search and Destroy Modern Warfare

It seems that Hitch chose to compete in Modern Warfare because the mechanics and gameplay are the same as Warzone. As for the 2v2 Oddman maps, each team will send two of their players into a Quads match against the other team’s two and compete to see who can finish with the most kills. Hitch stated that the 2v2 Oddman maps are formatted the way they are so that one team doesn’t have a better lobby than the other team.
At first glance, the series might appear to benefit CDL professionals; after all, three of the maps are played in Modern Warfare. However, if Warzone pros really want to prove they can compete in the CDL, they would logically have to win at least one CDL map. Interestingly, though, it seems CDL pros are hesitant to compete in the event. hitch tweeted that only one CDL team has been formed so far; meanwhile, all four Warzone teams have filled out.
This tournament will take place sometime on Wednesday August 31st and will be streamed on Hitch’s Twitch channel. Players in the tournament will also likely stream their POV during their matches.
