Our iPhones continue to get faster, bigger, and better for taking photos and videos, but while battery life has improved over the years, so have our demands on those batteries. As a result, many phones still last around a day (or a little longer) with regular use.
That’s fine if you can charge your phone every night, but what if you forget to? Or what if you’re away for a night or two? Or what if your battery starts to drain alarmingly fast for no apparent reason? There are many scenarios where you may need your iPhone battery to last a little (or a lot) longer than normal.
Fortunately, there are numerous ways to squeeze every last juice out of your iPhone’s battery. Combine them and you can get a lot more time between charges without too much commitment.
See which apps are hogging your battery
How quickly or slowly your iPhone loses battery power depends on what you’re doing with it. Apps that demand more system resources (like games) or use GPS (like map apps) will drain your battery more quickly, so the less you use these apps, the better, in terms of battery life. battery.
You can see which apps are consuming the most battery:
- Gonna Settings > Battery.
- Scroll down to see which apps have used the most battery. You can view the percentages for the last 24 hours or for the last eight days.
Lower the screen brightness
Screen brightness can also make a big difference in extending battery life.
- To reduce the brightness, you can slide down to the Control center and use the brightness control or go to Settings > Display and brightness and use the slider there.
- He true tone control in Settings > Display and brightness it will adjust the brightness settings automatically. This can be a good thing because it will keep the brightness adjusted to account for the lighting environment; however, if you think it might not be adjusting to what you want or keeping things too bright, you can turn it off.
- Having the screen on when you’re not using your phone also consumes power. In Settings > Display and brightnesstap auto lock and reduce this to 30 seconds or the shortest amount of time you are comfortable with. If the screen locks after a shorter delay, it will spend more time showing the darker lock screen which is easier on the battery.
- In Settings > Display and brightnesstap Dark to switch to dark mode, which consumes less power.
Cellular signals and Bluetooth
Another factor that can affect battery levels is cell signal quality. When your iPhone is on a spotty link, it has to work extra hard to stay connected, so if you know you’ll be in an area with weak cellular coverage for a while, you might want to put your phone in airplane mode until you actually you need to be online. The easiest way to do this is to open the Control center swiping down from the top right corner of the screen, then tapping the airplane mode button.
Bluetooth can also drain the battery. If you’re wearing a smartwatch that’s connected to your phone via Bluetooth and it’s running low on battery power, you may want to unplug the devices. Also, if you’re going to be using your phone constantly for long periods without recharging it, you might want to consider a pair of wired (rather than wireless) headphones. And by the way, playing at maximum volume can damage both battery life and hearing.
Limit what apps can do in the background
Apps like to be able to run in the background when you’re not using them so they can, for example, upload your photos or check incoming emails. However, this may have an impact on battery life. You can check which apps are running in the background and limit which ones have that ability.
- Open Settings and select General > Background app refresh.
- Tap Background app refresh to get the option to turn it off for all your apps, allow it for Wi-Fi only (which you might consider if you don’t have an unlimited plan), or allow it for Wi-Fi and mobile data (in other words, all the time).
- You can also run the app list and turn off background app refresh for each app individually.
- Alternatively, open Settings, scroll down to the list of the apps you have installed, tap on any of them and disable Background app refresh.
- On those same individual pages for each of your apps, you can tap Location > Never to prevent an app from triggering the iPhone’s GPS sensor (another battery drain). Your other location options will vary by app, but you can choose to have the app ask for permission every time you want to use GPS or only use it while using the app.
limit notifications
Another option is to limit the notifications that an app can send. These light up your screen, and if there are a lot of them coming from a particular app, it can make all the difference. Notifications for an app can be managed from the same individual lists in Settings, where you manage background refresh and location access, or you can go to Settings > Notifications.
Prevent Siri from listening
You can also get a little extra battery life by turning off Siri’s active listening feature; if your iPhone is always listening for you to say “Hey Siri”, then that consumes more battery. To turn this off, open Settings and choose siri and searchthen disable the Listen to “Hey Siri” option.
when you get desperate
If your battery charge is getting lower than 20 percent and you’re not near a power source, there are still things you can do. To get started, you can enable low power mode.
Low Power Mode reduces screen brightness, minimizes system animations, optimizes device performance (so components don’t work too hard), and limits much of the activity that happens in the background on your phone.
You’ll automatically be prompted to enable this when your battery level reaches 20 percent and 10 percent, but you can actually enable it whenever you want, and it makes a considerable difference in terms of how quickly your battery drains. iphone. To start it manually, open the Battery from Settings and change the low power mode option activated.
You can also apply many other of the tips we have mentioned:
- Lower the screen brightness as much as you can.
- Keep your phone locked for as long as possible.
- Keep your phone in airplane mode for as long as possible.
- Do not play any audio or run any demanding games or applications.
- Turn off GPS access completely through Privacy and security > Location services in the settings.
