There are many weapons in Elden Ring that have become extremely popular with the player base, but few have managed to stay in place since the game’s release despite continual patches and changes.
Moonveil has always been a katana champion, so much so that one of the first patches to the game drastically reduced its strength. Even now, Moonveil is considered a top tier weapon due to his unique and lightning-fast blunt attacks and Ashes of War. Like any weapon in the Elden Ring, you’ll need to build your character properly if you want to get the most out of it.
The weapon
To get Moonveil, you will need to travel to the underground dungeon. gaelic tunnel within the treacherous land of Fallen. Once you have reached the dungeon, you will have to defeat the magma wyrm boss before you can claim your new katana. To wield Moonveil, you will need to have at least 12 Strength, 18 Dexterity, Y 23 Intelligence.
These requirements can be a hindrance for many players, as not everyone levels up Intelligence very much during their playthrough. The good news is that if you’re still determined to use Moonveil, there are many larva tears you can get through the Lands Between, which will allow you to respect your character.

All weapons in Elden Ring scale differently. While some weapons become stronger when your character has a higher Strength stat, others increase in power as Faith increases. you can increase the scale of a weapon by upgrading it using blacksmith stones. Moonveil scales mostly with Intelligence and second with Skill. To make the best Moonveil build, you should start by making sure Intelligence and Dexterity are your highest stats.
Moonveil does similar damage with her basic attacks compared to other katanas, but her transient moonlight Ashes of War is well known for having a big impact. This movement costs 15 FP either 20 FP cast, depending on the version of the attack you use, so you will need a large pool of FP to use it effectively. Since most of your damage will come from Transient Moonlight, you’ll need to spend some of your points on Mind. It is also highly recommended to sacrifice some of your Flasks of Crimson Tears to carry more Cerulean tear vials.
the talismans
There are four charms that will help you cast Transient Moonlight more often and do more damage overall with Moonshroud.
- (Optional) Marika’s Scarseal/Soreseal — Increases Mind, Intelligence, Faith, and Arcana by several points, but significantly increases damage taken.
- cerulean amber locket — Increases maximum FP by a percentage. This is more effective with a higher base FP.
- Ancient Spirit Horn — Restores FP when defeating enemies, allowing you to conserve your Flasks of Cerulean Tears more effectively.
- Carian Filigree Crest — Reduces the FP consumed by skills, giving you a chance to use Transient Moonlight more often.
Regardless of which talismans you use, remember to focus on maximizing your FP usage while maintaining high intelligence and dexterity for your basic attacks.
