How to Enter the Local 10 Eco-Hero Wild Florida Contest

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. A PURCHASE WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING: THIS CONTEST IS NOT INTENDED TO BE USED FOR GAMBLING PURPOSES. IF AN ENTRANT IS DETERMINED TO BE USING THE CONTEST FOR GAMING PURPOSES, THEY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED.

The Eco-Hero contest is open only to Florida residents within the Miami-Dade and Broward counties viewing area. Employees of WPLG, Inc. and its affiliates, who are owned by Berkshire Hathaway (“Sponsor”), and members of their immediate family (spouse, parents, children and siblings and their spouses) are not eligible. Void where prohibited.

HOW TO ENTER: Adults, ages 18 and older, can nominate middle school students, ages 11-14, enrolled in schools in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Nominated high school students must have a proven track record of volunteering for environmental causes. In an essay of 500 words or less, nominators may describe the work the nominated student has done to address environmental problems and provide a path to solutions. The essay must include the nominee’s name, school name, school address, and grade level, along with the nominee’s phone number and email address. The nominator must also include their name, phone number, and email address. All nominations can be scanned and emailed to Ron Magill ([email protected]) at Zoo Miami from September 6, 2022 through 11:59 p.m. on September 23, 2022. A select panel of five judges from Zoo Miami and the Miami Zoo Foundation will evaluate each submission and select the top five finalists. Those top five finalists will be interviewed by WPLG Local 10 and their interviews will air during the WPLG Local 10 newscasts.

The voting period is from November 4, 2022 to 11:59 pm on November 18, 2022. Those who vote go to Local10.com and click on the Eco-Hero Voting tab to link to the voting page. register and select the finalist of your choice. WPLG Local 10 viewer selections/votes will be included with votes from a select panel of judges from Zoo Miami and the Zoo Miami Foundation to determine the Grand Prize Winner. WPLG Local 10 viewer votes will account for 25%, while each of the five select committee judges will account for 15%, when combined to determine the Grand Prize Winner. One winner will be named a Local 10 Eco-Hero on Monday, November 28, 2022. The winner will be notified by phone or email within 48 hours of the drawing ending. All prizes are non-transferable. No cash or other substitutions are allowed. The final results of the Eco-Hero vote are determined and verified solely by Zoo Miami.

Zoo Miami is not responsible for shipments that are delayed, lost, or damaged prior to arrival at the zoo.

ALTERNATIVE ENTRY METHODS: As an alternative to participating in accordance with the previous paragraph, proponents may participate by submitting the essay, along with nominee’s name, school name, school address, grade level, and nominee’s phone number and email address. The nominator must also include their name, phone number, and email address. all handwritten or legibly typed to Zoo Miami, C/O Ron Magill, Eco Hero Wild Florida, 12400 SW 152 Street, Miami, FL 33177 or the legibly typed or handwritten essay may be mailed to: Zoo Miami, C/O Ron Magill, Eco Hero Wild Florida, 12400 SW 152 Street, Miami, FL 33177. Entries submitted via this alternate method must be received by Zoo Miami, Inc. no later than September 23, 2022.

ENTRY CONSTITUTES PERMISSION TO PUBLISH: Any information submitted by the trial participant may be broadcast on WPLG, Inc. television shows, local10.com, or in any other medium, at any time and for any period of time, including, but not limited to, posting to any marketing, publicity, or other form of promotion for this contest or similar future contest by WPLG, Inc., and such broadcast or posting does not entitle the entrant or any other person to compensation of any kind. Each entrant will hold Sponsor harmless from any third party claims related to WPLG, Inc.’s transmission or publication of any information provided by entrant in any form of media, including, but not limited to, publication on WPLG, Inc. Only one (1) ticket per person. All submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. on September 23, 2022 to be eligible for the contest. No serially produced or photocopied entries will be accepted. If a dispute arises as to who submitted an entry, the entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the person on whose behalf the entry was made.
