Firefox and Edge offer quick action commands in the address bar, but the option is hidden by default. Here’s how to enable the feature.
Google’s flagship browser has a Chrome Actions feature that allows its users to trigger browser actions by entering certain commands in the URL bar. Those action commands provide handy shortcuts for using tools and changing options in Chrome.
You can use similar features in Mozilla Firefox and Edge. However, the command functions in those browsers are hidden and are not automatically enabled by default. This is how you can enable action commands in Edge and Firefox.
How to enable Firefox’s built-in quick actions feature
Firefox has a Quick Actions feature that you’ll need to turn on from within the browser Advanced preferences (about: settings) tab. That quick actions feature provides users with 14 handy Firefox commands. You can activate that feature with the following steps:
- Click inside the address bar of the Firefox website.
- Open Advanced preferenceswrite about: settings in the URL bar and press Get into.
- Click on the accept the risk button presented in the warning message.
- Input browser.urlbar.quickactions.enabled and hit Get into to find the prompt for the Quick Actions feature.
- Click on the Lever button to the right of the browser.urlbar.quickactions.enabled configuration to set that flag to true.
- Restart Firefox after setting that flag on.
Now you can try Fox’s Quick Actions feature. To do so, enter > in the Firefox URL bar and press the Space wrench. Then you will see Firefox action commands in boxes.
Select a command to activate by left clicking on its box with the mouse or by using the arrow keys. For example, you can take a snapshot of the page in Firefox by selecting take a screenshot. The Quick Actions feature also includes search engines for you to select from. These are the command actions you can select in Firefox:

How to enable the Edge command palette
Microsoft Edge version 105 adds a command palette. Command Palette is not available in version 104 of Edge or any of the following versions. The feature allows users to activate development and productivity commands with a command box.
It is currently an experimental feature within Microsoft Edge that users must enable through that browser. experiments tab. You can then activate and use the command palette in Edge 105 as follows:
- Write border://flags/ inside the Edge web address bar and press the button Get into keyboard button
- Input command palette in the flag search box.
- Select the command palette the flag Activated option in its dropdown menu.
- Click Restart about him experiments tab to restart Edge.
- You can then open the Command Palette in Edge by pressing your Control + Change + Space shortcut key
You can view a full list of developer tool commands by entering > in the text box. Select a command from the list to activate it by pressing the up/down arrow keys and Get into. Or click an action in the list with the mouse.
The Command Palette has some useful window, bookmark, and tab commands. For example, input marker in the keyword text box. The Command Palette will then list these marker actions for you to select:
- Mark all tabs
- bookmark this page
- show bookmark manager
- open bookmark
There you have four marker actions at your fingertips. If you want to save a web page, select bookmark this page. Or select Mark all tabs to add all open pages to your favorites. To see your saved favorites, click show bookmark manager.

Use command controls in Firefox and Edge for better navigation
The Quick Actions and Command Palette features in Firefox and Edge give you a new way to use those browsers. Instead of manually searching for options and tools in the menus of those browsers, you can enter and select quick commands for them. These are experimental features that improve the keyboard functionality of both Firefox and Edge.
