How to delete messages on your Mac

Sending text messages, sharing links, and sending videos and images to contacts on your phone is a convenient feature that you can control on your Mac if you’re signed in with your Apple ID on both a laptop or desktop computer or an iPhone. It saves you time by constantly switching your attention between both devices, and you can even delete messages on your Mac if you want. Here’s how to do it.

How to set up Messages on a Mac

Before you can delete messages on your Mac, you need to set up the Messages app.

Step 1: Open the Messages program on your Mac and sync it with your system by signing in to your Apple ID account.

Step 2: There are a few options you can configure once enabled. Select the Messages tab, then open preferences. After selecting iMessageadjust the app to your liking.

Within the Messages app, you can do all sorts of things with your messages, including deleting them.

Step 1: Select a message you want to delete by right clicking on it (the Control + Click combination on the touch panel).

Step 2: Choose the Delete the conversation option and then confirm it by pressing the button Erase button. This will delete the entire message thread and everything in it.

Once the message is deleted, it will be removed from all your iOS devices (as long as you’re signed in to your Apple ID), including your iPhone.

Step 3: If you want to delete a specific message within a conversation thread on your Mac, be it text, images, etc., right-click the message and select Erase.

Step 4: To delete all messages within a text without getting rid of the conversation in the sidebar so that it can still be accessed, open the message by selecting it, choose the Edit menu tab and select Clear Transcript.

Delete SMS messages on Mac

When you set up the Messages app on your Mac, it will be limited to just iMessages by default. In order to view your SMS messages in the system (texts sent to smartphones other than iPhone) and then delete them, you will need to adjust some settings on your iPhone.

Step 1: Select Messages within Settings.
