- How to beat the defending unit
The toughest fight in the skies that islets has to offer is against the Defender Unit, an oversized mine on a losing streak. To take on this boss, you will need a fully upgraded ship, which allows you to teleport short distances.
Unsurprisingly, he’ll be forced to use this new ability more than a few times in this battle, and since he won’t have had much opportunity to practice with it, that’s a tough one to ask. Let’s hope it’s not a big fight. We have some tips, just in case!
Defending Unit Attacks
As mentioned, Defender Unit has attacks that require the use of its shiny new teleport ability.
attacks | Description | How to counter |
---|---|---|
fire pulse | The Defending Unit uses two attacks at once. First, short streams of projectiles aimed directly at you, and second, large, expanding circles that need to be teleported away. | The small streams of bullets can be easily avoided, but you will have to teleport through the expanding circles. Try to teleport through two at once to get the most benefit. |
EXTERMINATE | The Defender Unit fires bullet patterns in a circle around them; these patterns are all letters and will spell ‘EXTERMINATE’. | This move is incredibly easy to avoid, just follow the word as it circles the boss, staying as close as possible to increase your rate of fire. |
rotating laser | The Defender Unit fires a single laser that spreads across the entire stage. The laser spins fast. | The laser is fast, so you will need very fast reflexes or be preparing a teleport long before you need it. |
segmented legumes | The Defender Unit fires the same expanding circles as the Pulse Fire attack, but this time adds consistent lines of fire. | You will have to teleport to the segment closest to the boss every time you are threatened. However, this attack has a rhythm that is quite easy to get used to. |
Enraged Dual Rings | The Defending Unit telegraphs this attack with two lines ending in circles that are at the top and bottom of the stage or left and right. After a moment, each circle becomes a damaging ring of projectile that expands outward. The boss continues with another couple of circles in the alternate arrangement. | Stay in the corners of the stage and then teleport to the most open areas you can find at the last second, this will give you more time to adjust when the second set of circles reaches you. |
raging streams | The Defender Unit emits two constant streams of projectiles in a swirling pattern. | This attack is quite easy to avoid completely if you stay very close to the boss, which will also increase your damage output. |
Raging Rotating Laser | This is the same as the normal spinning laser attack, but the boss adds periodically expanding circles of projectiles, forcing you to tweak the way you use teleportation to avoid it. | Instead of just teleporting through lasers, you’ll also need to teleport through rings. Teleport closer to the boss for better damage. |
How to beat the defending unit
This fight is a test of how quickly you can get to grips with your new ship’s ability, but it’s not too tough.
- As always, try to stay as close as you can to the boss Y never release the fire button. The closer you are to the boss, the higher your rate of fire.
- Also, remember that your hitbox is actually the red circle inside Iko’s shipnot the whole ship.
- If you have problems with the teleporter, try practicing your time out of battle. You can learn pretty quickly how fast the teleporter’s target location is moving, and at what instant you can pull off skillful dodges.
