A powerful story of forbidden love, regret and how to live as oneself.my police” is the (reductively) “gay cop movie starring Harry styles” that you’ve probably been hearing about for months. Although yes, the film, directed by the British theater director and producer michael grange (2016 “Genius”), and written by ron niswanerbased on the book by Bethan Roberts, is that the love story of a gay police officer, is also much more complex and moving than that, frankly.

Probably a safe bet for the fall film festival season and hitting theaters and Amazon in the fall, “My Policeman” is a sweeping romantic drama and an emotional journey of desire and regret starring Styles, emma corrin (“The Crown”) and David Dawson (“all the old knives”). Essentially, it’s about a closeted cop (Styles) who marries a woman (Corrin) – because it’s the 1950s, homosexuality is basically illegal and it feels like the right thing to do – but he’s madly in love with a museum maker. (Dawson). Fast-forward about 40 years into the future, all of these characters come together and all the pent-up longing keeps bursting forth to get out.

Based on the book by Bethan Roberts, director Michael Grandage sculpts a visually compelling and moving portrait of three people caught up in the shifting tides of history, freedom and forgiveness.
co-star Gina McKee, Linus RoacheY Rupert Everett like the previous version of these characters, “My Policeman” is produced by the CW super producer Greg Berlanti, With Sarah Schechter, Robbie Rogers, Cora Palfrey, Y Philip Herd.
While Berlanti’s partnership gives pause (CW superhero stuff is generally pretty terrible), this looks like a more adult, mature project that will likely disassociate itself from that embarrassing YA fare. amazon studios will distribute “My Policeman” in theaters in the US and the UK on October 21, 2022, and on Prime Video globally on November 4, 2022. Prior to that, the film will be released worldwide in the Toronto International Film Festival. Check out the first trailer below.
