MDOT will remove lane restrictions on 81 highway and bridge projects in Michigan to help ease traffic delays for commuters over Memorial Day weekend.
Lane restrictions will be lifted at 81 of 146 projects from Friday through Tuesday morning, May 30. Equipment and some traffic changes or shoulder closures will remain in place even though construction is not in progress.
AAA expects more than 1.2 million Michigan residents to drive 50 miles or more over Memorial Day weekend.

Gas Prices by Michigan County
According to AAA, Memorial Day road trips are up 6% over last year. About 37.1 million Americans will drive wherever they go. Driving is the preferred mode of transportation for 88% of vacation travelers.
Gasoline prices have fallen in recent weeks, but AAA said it’s too early to tell if the downward trend will continue in the run-up to Memorial Day weekend. They said gas prices are unlikely to be anywhere near the average $4.60 a gallon that Memorial Day weekend commuters paid last year.
