Weather furious it’s a prequel, director George Miller actually finished the first draft of the spin-off earlier Mad Max: Fury Road he started shooting. Talking to AV Club about the highly anticipated film, Miller discussed the creative process of building mad max‘s and how it led him to write an entire story for Furiosa just to give the cast and crew enough background details.

While Furiosa became an immediate fan-favorite character, fury road it only scratched the surface of the character’s backstory. Still, Miller says he had a complete script on the warrior’s origin at the time. fury road started filming. In Miller’s words:
“When we write Mad Max, the task was to tell a story that would always be running and see how much the public could catch in passing. That was one of the tricks. Mad Max: Fury Road, that there would be references to things where she’s from, why they’re doing things, but she was always on the run. There were very few quiet moments. We never explain how she lost her arm. We never explained what the real Many Mothers Green Place was. We never explain how the Citadel works. So we had the script pretty much complete before we shot. fury road, and we did it because it came from wanting to explain to everyone who Furiosa was: to Charlize when she took on the role, and to all the actors and designers and everyone else who worked on the Citadel and so on. The feeling was, gosh, this is a pretty good script, and then I said to myself, ‘yeah fury road works, I would really like to tell this story.
Fortunately for all of us, fury road It was met with critical acclaim, being nominated for ten Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. fury road took home six Oscar statuettes, all in technical categories, and the film was deemed successful enough for Miller to make it furious. And from what Miller says, there are plenty of other Mad Max stories that developed during fury roadthe production of As Miller says:
“[Furiosa] it arose, I’m not going to say by chance, but it arose from a need to explain [Fury Road‘s] world which, as I said, essentially happened over three days and two nights. He’s really trying to explain how that world came to be. We also wrote, not a script, but almost in the form of a novel, Nico Lathouris and me, what happened to Max that year before, and that’s something we’ll see later. But in telling us the story of Furiosa, everything in fury road it had to be explained. In my mind, I have a backstory of the Doof Warrior, who plays the guitar. As a blind man who only knows how to play the guitar, how can he survive in a wasteland where everyone is in extremis? How did he get to be there? So we wrote little stories for each character when we made fury road.”
