The thought-provoking fantasy series centers on Morpheus, aka Dream (played by Tom Sturridge), a cosmic being who controls all dreams. He travels through different worlds and timelines to make amends for the mistakes he’s made, and there are quite a few.

The official synopsis describes the series as “a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend seamlessly intertwine.”

The 11-episode series premiered in August and has wowed fantasy fans ever since, with many social media users calling for a second season.

“Why isn’t the sandman renewed yet exactly?” asked a concerned fan on Twitter. “This show is the best show on Netflix right now and it easily broke so many records and continues to trend left and right.”

A second fan pleaded with Netflix to renew the show: “@netflix the sandman iIt’s one of the absolute best originals in a long time! Let us continue with this amazing story! #TheSandman #renewTheSandman.”

Another fan of the TV show said that the adaptation had led them to read the graphic novel. “8 episodes in The Sandman on Netflix, and I can safely say this is one of the best shows this year,” they tweeted. “I’ve never read the graphic novel, but I think I will now.”

When asked on Twitter about the status of a possible second season amid heated demands for more episodes, Gaiman cryptically tweeted: “Every day higher…”

He also warned fans not to get their hopes up about new episodes due to the show’s production costs.

“Because Sandman It is a very expensive show. And for Netflix to release the money to allow us to do another season, we have to do it incredibly well. So yeah, we’ve been the best show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough.”

That said, curious viewers should dive right in. The Sandman this weekend.
