DC United looks to hold onto its momentum from Wednesday’s win over NYCFC heading into tonight’s game against Colorado Rapids.
If the Reds and Blacks hope to finish the season strong, they must continue to build on Wednesday’s result. Tonight’s matchup with Colorado could give DC a chance to pick up another three points, this time at home.
The Rapids have been out of form, giving up ten goals in their last two away games, most recently losing 4-1 to Nashville. In August, Colorado allowed 21 goals. Three points could be in the red and black’s sights if they can capitalize on their fortified attack while keeping it on the baseline against the likes of Rubio, Zardes and Abubakar.
With Taxi Fountas still unavailable due to the concussion protocol and mounting challenges, DC will need to maintain a “next man up” mentality as the team heads into the final stretch of a difficult season.
For head coach Wayne Rooney, Black-and-Red’s performance against NYCFC was “the best performance we’ve had since I’ve been here.” Get your thoughts on Wednesday’s game as DC United prepares to go against Colorado again!
Key player: Christian Benteke
DP Christian Benteke makes his Audi Field debut after a strong start in Black-and-Red against NYCFC. Benteke will be looking to get off to a strong start at home, hoping to help DC to three points in front of the club’s stalwart supporters.
Careful with: Diego Rubio, Gyasi Zardes, Lalas Abubakar
Rubio, Zardes and Abubakar are Colorado’s leading scorers and have been able to create quite a few problems for their opponents this season.
challenges: DC United must exploit any weak spots in Colorado’s leaky defense while holding their back line. Staying strong in midfield and being quick on the counterattack would help the Red and Black tonight.
Previously: DC and Colorado haven’t met on the court since 2020 when the Rapids defeated the Black-and-Red 2-1 at Audi Field.
