Being on the 17-point losing list like the Irish against the Buckeyes could easily cause low morale among the coaching staff and throughout the team. But this is not the case with Notre Dame. Instead, it appears new head coach Marcus Freeman is using that big number as motivational bulletin board material for his squad.
“I’m going to write that down,” Freeman, the freshman HC, told The Athletic’s Matt Fortuna. “We’ll use that in a team meeting today. Good to know.”
According to FOX Sports Research, the Irish went 9-4 against the spread (ATS) last season. And, since 1982, when Notre Dame has been a double-digit loser, the team has gone 20-14 ATS. Two good nuggets for players thinking of spending a few bucks on the Irish.
On the other side of the ball is the local team, Ohio State.
The No. 2-ranked Buckeyes won their most recent championship in 2014 when they defeated the Oregon Ducks 42-20. His last appearance in a CFP title game was in 2020, which ended in a 52-24 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Based on their matchup history against Notre Dame, the Buckeyes could enter this contest with confidence. According to FOX Sports Research, the Buckeyes are 4-0 ATS and 4-0 outright (SU) when playing the Irish since 1995.
And backers debating taking more or less than 54.5 points might consider the 2021 records of these two shows in that category. Notre Dame games outscored seven of 13 games, while Ohio State outscored eight times out of 13.
How do the experts bet on this game? For that, we turned to FOX Sports betting analyst Sam Panayotovich.
“It makes me nervous how much this point spread has skyrocketed,” said Sammy P.
“Let’s remember that a sports book in Nevada opened Ohio State -10.5 several months ago, and the line is down to -17 right now. I was interested in the Buckeyes even at -14, but I can’t tell you what to put the wood right now.” it is a good habit.
“If Ohio State is up late at 9:00 p.m. and throws a touchdown in garbage time, you’re going to want to throw the remote through your TV. And trust me, no one wants that.
“FOX Bet is currently spreading the total at O/U 58.5 and the ‘Over’ is my favorite move. Everyone knows OSU should light up the scoreboard with their video game offense, but if Notre Dame can get to 24 points, there’s no.” many paths for this one to stay “low”.
“Ohio State may well win big and cover, but I’m playing ‘Over’ 58.5.”
