Chicago, December 5: The Mangalorean Konkan Christian Association held its 21st annual Christmas celebration at St Hubert’s Church Hall in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. In Konkani language, it is popularly called as Nathal Fest, which celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ. Christmas is celebrated by all 2.5 billion Christians around the world on December 25.
The cultural program was launched by the welcome note from the MKCA President, Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu. In his welcome address, he called on the Chicago area Christian community to become actively involved and participate in his cultural programs organized by MKCA. He asked them to spread the word to other members of the community about these programs. He said that with the active participation of the participants present, anything is possible. He thanked the members and guests for their unconditional support in the success of various annual programs, especially this program. He thanked the pastor, Father Mike Scherschel, and presented him with a check for his generosity in providing the venue. In response to this, Fr. Scherschel communicated his best wishes for Christmas to those present and blessed the ethnic Indian food.
The partner of the program Steeven D’Souza welcomed the entire audience for an aperitif. Everyone enjoyed the ethnic snacks.
Charel Lasrado carried out various group activities for children and adults. The children put on their spirited participation while the adults relived their younger age! The following were the winners of the activities carried out: Child’s Play – Marshmallow Filling – Winner Ethan Mesquita. Children under 10 years old – decorating the Christmas Tree – Esther Mesquita and Shannon Sequeira. Children from 10 to 18 years old: Collecting the highest sweets – Solan D’Souza and Adults – Blown balloon: Florine Rodrigues and Primus D’Mello. The members and the children present sang Christmas carols, under the direction of Concy Mesquita and a team of musicians. The grand entrance of Santa Claus (Austin Prabhu) thrilled the young children present. Santa Claus entertained the children present with Christmas gifts. The crowd in attendance was excited to take photos with Santa.
Savio Pais, the MKCA secretary, thanked the entire organizing committee for their tireless support in the success of the program. He thanked all the audience for his pleasant participation in the program.
The program ended with a sumptuous ethnic dinner. Under effective DJ Queenie Mendonca, the audience enjoyed dancing to songs in Konkani, Hindi, Kannada and Spanish.
