Wildlife areas, ecological reserves, and other properties may be closed due to wildfires or storm damage. Hunters and outdoor enthusiasts are strongly encouraged to check closures before embarking on any recreational travel.
Several days ─ Wetland meet and greet at Gray Lodge Wildlife Area, 3207 Rutherford Road, Gridley (95948). Meet with a wildlife naturalist from the Gray Lodge Wildlife Area. This 15-minute interactive orientation may include information about the origins of Gray Lodge, assistance in identifying wildlife or behavior patterns, or a brief explanation of conservation management. Sundays ─ Tot Time at Nimbus Fish Hatchery, 11-11:45 am, 2001 Nimbus Road, Gold River (95670). Join us every Sunday for Tot Time at the Nimbus Hatchery Visitor Center where we will read nature related stories and create a fun craft! Recommended for children from 2 to 7 years old, with the supervision of parents or guardians. There is no cost for these events and no registration is required. 2 ─ Deadline for the Big Game draw. The deadline to submit tag requests for premium moose, pronghorn, bighorn sheep and deer is June 2, 2023. Sales transactions must be completed by midnight. Hunters can apply at select CDFW license sales offices, online, license sales agents, or by calling telephone sales at (800) 565-1458. 3 ─ Sunset Pride Hike at Ballona Reserve, 5:30-7:30 pm, 303 Culver Blvd., Playa del Rey (90293). The Friends of the Ballona Wetlands invite 2SLGBTQ+ communities to join a sunset walk in honor of Pride Month. Explore the last few coastal wetlands in Los Angeles while having the opportunity to openly and safely discuss what it means to be a 2SLGBTQ+ individual in the great outdoors. 4 ─ Ballona Reserve Salt Flats and Dunes Tour, 10 a.m.-noon, 303 Culver Blvd., Playa del Rey (90293). Explore the wonder of nature in the middle of urban Los Angeles! Friends of Ballona docents will guide participants through the Ballona Wetlands Ecological Reserve and teach about its history and ecology. Enjoy special and unique native plants on the journey through different habitats. Participants might even meet some of the local wildlife. 10 ─ Ballona Creek Cleanup at Ballona Reserve, 9:30 am to noon, 303 Culver Blvd., Playa del Rey (90293). Help the Friends of the Ballona Wetlands clean up Los Angeles’ last coastal wetland. Did you know that 130 square miles of storm drainage flows into Ballona Creek? Sewer trash from as far away as North Hollywood can end up in the wetland!
