‘Batgirl’ Details Shed Light on Michael Keaton’s Role as Batman

New details of DC’s canceled Bat girl have surfaced, confirming Michael Keaton’s Batman role in the story and comparing the film to a CW show.

Following Bat girlAfter the shocking cancellation at Warner Bros. Discovery, the film was reportedly given “funeral screenings” on the Warner Bros. lot, leading to new information about the abandoned DCEU entry surfacing online.

The last Bat girl The details that do emerge reveal the role of Michael Keaton’s Batman, whose place in the DCEU apparently differs from Ben Affleck’s Batman in a significant way.

Heroic Hollywood’s Umberto Gonzalez recently shared comments from a Warner Bros. insider who was able to see Bat girl in its unfinished form in the “funeral projections”.

the Bat girl Insider confirmed that Michael Keaton’s performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman was a highlight for Bat girl, with the actor playing an “age-appropriate” version of the character. Unlike Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne, whom Keaton would replace, this version of Batman reportedly retired and briefly redressed to serve as a mentor to Leslie Grace’s Batgirl.

In an interview with Erik Davis on Twitter, Umberto González said about Michael Keaton’s role in Bat girl:

“I asked how Keaton is at least, and they told me he was fine. He’s playing the age-appropriate Bruce Wayne/Batman of him, he has white hair when he’s Bruce Wayne. And the trick here is that his Batman is ‘retired’. But he obviously shows up to help and advise Barbara Gordon.

“He’s not really in it that much, but he has a presence when he’s in it, and it’s kind of a pivotal cameo when he comes in and out.”

It was also revealed that, while not terrible, Bat girl it seemed to lack the scale and depth of other DC movies, drawing comparisons to a CW series. The CW’s DC series, like Arrow Y The flashthough it often tells stories that prove popular, it has a decidedly less “blockbuster” feel than one would expect from a DC movie like Bat girl.

Speaking about the general reactions to the film, González revealed:

“He plays like a very expensive CW pilot. It’s not really a strong movie, the tone is very CW, it lacks depth, it’s lighter and more comic book-like, which is weird because Michael Keaton is in it. It’s basically a one hour and 40 minute CW pilot. With a pretty good action piece at the end from what I’m told. And again, it’s not the worst superhero movie I’ve ever seen.”

These comments seem to align with Bat girl‘s journey towards making, having started life as a direct-to-streaming film for HBO Max. While the decision was made to rearrange the DC film for its theatrical release, with a larger budget devoted to reshoots of the film, it seems that it was too little too late.

Whether or not this justifies the decision to cancel the film will be left up to fans and filmmakers to debate. Sounds like Bat girl it had its strong moments, including the return of Michael Keaton as Batman, and many DC fans would surely have liked to see the final product, even if it wasn’t DC’s strongest movie.
