BARL: Win a vacation in Florida and help animals

Posted 2:30 pm Wednesday, May 24, 2023

Brookhaven Animal Rescue League needs donations to continue operating as a no-kill shelter, and has a new summer incentive to help raise funds.

BARL volunteers are selling tickets for a chance at a six-night stay at an Airbnb in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Tickets are $25 or five for $100 for this $1,200 prize.

Airbnb is pet friendly and booking dates are flexible. Sales end at midnight on May 28 and the drawing will be on May 30. For more information, visit barl.net/events.

BARL focuses on supporting the area by caring for and adopting unwanted animals, and preventing the number of unwanted animals from being born.

“If you think about it, BARL is basically a business expecting having to close their doors due to lack of business,” said Rusty Adcock, BARL Board President. “Spaying and neutering is key to decreasing this large number of homeless pets. People, help BARL go out of business. Please.”

BARL has offered discount spay/neuter coupons for years. The requirements to receive a coupon change and often depend on the issuer of the spay/neuter program. People age 65 and older who live in Copiah, Franklin or Lincoln counties always qualify for a coupon, though BARL expects only those with financial need to apply for one.

BARL works with all Lincoln County Veterinary Clinics, as well as Copiah Animal Hospital in Copiah County and Larkin Veterinary Clinic in Franklin County. Information on spay/neuter programs can be found at barl.net/news. Residents of Copiah, Franklin or Lincoln counties can also contact vet clinics to see what coupons are available.

BARL volunteers raise funds throughout the year to support the animals in their care. The 501 c 3 charity receives no government funding and relies on fundraising efforts and donations.

All BARL animals are vaccinated and spayed/neutered. Dogs are also microchipped.

People with questions about adopting, contributing or volunteering should call BARL at 601-757-4367 or email [email protected]. Donations are tax deductible and can be mailed to BARL, PO Box 3477, Brookhaven, MS 39603.

BARL features many of its adoptable animals online at www.barl.net or on its Facebook page.
