Find out everything you need to know about the Carbonemys in our ARK: Survival Evolved guide. But also how to catch it, tame it, feed it and raise offspring as well.
You can find the Carbonemys walking on the beach or swimming in the water on all ARK maps.
So are the Carbonemys in ARK: Survival Evolved
Appearance: Carbonemys is a giant tortoise whose shell is spiny rather than smooth.
Wild: Like most herbivores in Ark, the Carbonemys has a passive temperament and will only attack you when you hit it first. However, due to its low speed, you can quickly escape overland. Depending on the level of Carbonemys, a fight can last a long time because its shell reduces the damage it takes.
Domesticated: Once you have tamed your Carbonemys, you have a mount for land and also for sea, rivers or lakes, where it is considerably faster than on land.
Tame the Carbonemys in ARK: Survival Evolved
How to hunt the Carbonemys: Since the Carbonemys is very slow on the ground, you can easily shoot it with a bow, crossbow, shotgun, and tranquilizer darts while running from it. With a crossbow or shotgun, you can stun it quicker than a bow as they can go through thick skin and are also more effective at hitting the shell.
While aiming, you need to focus on the body parts outside of its shell, as it will damage these parts. If you want to tame a Carbonemys right at the beginning of the game, he takes a slingshot and smashes rocks on his head until he passes out.
How to tame it: Once he’s unconscious, put food (scroll down) or kibble into his inventory and feed him. To keep the Carbonemys unconscious and increase the stun value, it is best to use the Anesthetic or Narcoberries.
How to make the Carbonemys saddle
To craft the Carbonemys saddle, you need to reach level 10 and pay 12 engram points to unlock the recipe. Now you need the following resources to create it:
- 170 Hide
- 95 fibers
- 10 Cementing Paste or Achatina Paste

How to Breed Carbonemys in ARK
This is how the brood is prepared: If you have a male and a female specimen, build an enclosure that is large enough at best. Place both dinosaurs on the pen and set them to “roam” via the command menu. Alternatively, you can also switch directly to “Match”, but there must always be a player nearby, otherwise the match will stop due to rendering.
The breeding interval for a Carbonemys is 18 to 48 hours.
How to hatch eggs: When he obtains a fertilized Carbonemys egg from a successful mating, hatching begins. To do this, the ambient temperature of the egg must be between 30 °C and 34 °C and inside the Egg Incubator at 32 °C. According to the standard setup, the little baby Carbonemys hatches after about 1.5 hours. After that, he takes about 2.5 hours of your attention, during which you keep putting food into his inventory.
Once it attains juvenile status, it can feed itself from feeders. The entire maturation time lasts about 23 hours.
