Apple Watch Ultra: How to use the Depth app for underwater activities

Apple Watch Ultra features a depth app that is unique to the device. This article tells you what it does and how to use it.

The ‌‌Apple Watch Ultra‌‌ can be used for dives up to 40 meters deep (130 feet), and the new depth app for the watch is designed to make the most of recreational underwater activities like snorkeling, underwater pool swimming, and diving. shallow free diving.

The Depth app can provide information about the water temperature, the current depth, the maximum depth, and the current time.

It is worth noting that the Depth app is not a dive computer like the upcoming Oceanic+ app, so it does not provide information such as decompression stop, gas analysis or other dive functions. So if you are using it in a situation where its failure could result in death or personal injury, make sure you have a secondary depth gauge and a timer or clock.

Using the depth app

By default, the Depth app opens automatically when the ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ is submerged to a depth of 1 meter or more, or you can manually start a session by opening the app.

When the Depth app is opened, the Water Lock function is activated to prevent any accidental input on the screen or with the Digital Crown. For this reason, if you want to record a workout, such as swimming in open water, open the Workout app and start the workout before you submerge your ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌.

When you’re done, press and hold the Digital Crown to deactivate Water Lock and end your session. The screen will unlock and a series of tones will play to clear any water left on the watch speaker.

After your dive, you will see a dive summary showing how long you were underwater, your maximum depth, and the range of water temperatures you experienced. You can also see the water temperature and depth on a timeline within the Health app, but not the other metrics.

How to disable Depth app autostart feature

  1. throw the Settings app on your ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌.
  2. Tap General, then tap automatic launch.
  3. Under “When submerged”, turn off the switch next to Auto start application.

How to change the depth app’s units of measure

  1. throw the Settings app on your ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌.
  2. Play Depth.
  3. To choose Feet either meters because of the depth and Fahrenheit either Celsius for temperature

The Depth app works to a maximum depth of 130 feet (40 meters). If you go below this depth, the screen turns yellow and some features of your ‌Apple Watch Ultra‌ may stop working or may work intermittently.
