Lionsgate’s next movie alice dear Oscar nominated stars Anne Kendrick in a claustrophobic psychological thriller that tests a woman’s mental stability. Ahead of its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11, a new poster was revealed showing Kendrick as the titular Alice, front and center.
mary nightAlice’s directorial debut finds Alice (Kendrick) struggling to cope with the psychological repercussions of her abusive relationship. When she goes on vacation with her two friends, played by Wunmi Mosaku (Loki) Y Kaniehtiio Horn (cartakenny), Alice lies to her manipulative boyfriend Simon (Charlie Carrick), telling him that he is going on a business trip. Her friends begin to notice that Alice is too anxious and can’t relax, and Simon texts her constantly, keeping up with what he’s doing. Noticing this abnormal behavior, her friends desperately try to make Alice understand that their relationship is neither normal nor healthy, but Simon’s abusive clutches run deep. As Alice deals with her crumbling relationships and new revelations about her, the tension mounts when Simon realizes that he is losing control over Alice.
The new poster alice dear it’s a really simple look at the way anxiety can manifest. The almost imperceptible tics of someone dealing with some form of anxiety can be small and repetitive, drawing attention to the person’s inability to remain present in a given situation. It’s these telltale signs Alice’s friends notice in the film that something isn’t quite right with her old friend. In the poster, Kendrick looks down, avoiding eye contact with a distant look in his eyes. His hands are placed in front of his face in a defensive and self-care gesture, but it’s the hair twisted tightly around the tip of his finger, cutting off circulation, that gives off a truly unsettling vibe.
After gaining attention through her breakout role as Bella Swan’s friend Jessica in TwilightKendrick went on to prove his acting chops by co-starring in In the air with George Clooney, which earned him an Oscar nomination. After a series of comedy roles, including the Perfect tone trilogy and the voice of Poppy in DreamWorks’ trollsKendrick starred in the 2018 thriller a simple favor. After alice dearhis next project will mark Kendrick’s first foray into the director’s chair alongside vigilant director Chloe Okuno with The dating game.
