Action News Chandler Morgan from Jax was able to read to the first grade class at the YMCA Tiger Academy Tuesday morning!
The school posted on its Facebook page: “We want to thank newscaster Chandler Morgan of Action News Jax for reading to Mrs. Gray’s first grade class! We enjoyed learning about hibernation and using our prediction skills to guess which animal was mailed to the zoo!”
Chandler even read Action News Jax First Alert meteorologist Garrett Bedenbaugh’s book, “Billy Wakes Up.” She also read “Dear Zoo.”
After his visit, Tiger Academy shared with Chandler information about its alumni scholarship program. The scholarship is awarded to students in their 5th grade year; Tiger Academy then keeps in touch with these students until they enter college.

A newsletter is shared with graduates that shares opportunities for mentoring, scholarships, and volunteering with community organizations. The scholarship is made up of funds raised by various donors and recipients. This year, 5 high school graduates received $1,750 each that goes toward their education costs. These students will attend Boston College, Brown University, FSCJ, and Methodist University. During the three years of offer of this scholarship, 18 students have benefited from this fund.
If anyone would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, they can contact Tiger Academy Executive Director Dr. Lauren Gibbs at [email protected].
