5 High School Football Games To Watch Off The Alabama Coast In Week 4

Here are five games to watch in Week 4 of the 2022 Coastal Alabama football season.

A complete coastal schedule is also included.

BC RAIN (1-1) AT FAITH ACADEMY (1-1)

Time/place: 7 p.m. Friday, Ram Field, Mobile

In the past week: BC Rain did not play; Lost Faith in Gulf Shores 22-12

In the air: N/A

The thin one: The Red Raiders are 1-0 in Class 5A, Region 1 after defeating Vigor two weeks ago. Faith is 1-1, having split games with Elberta and Gulf Shores. … The overall series is tied at 3-3, but the Rams have won the last two games by a combined score of 77-7. … In the Red Raiders’ 20-7 win over Vigor two weeks ago, junior running back Bryce Dowdlan rushed for 259 yards and 2 TDs on 25 carries. Both of his touchdowns came in the fourth quarter. LT Yelding is 8-24 in his fourth season as head coach. … Faith is trying to rebound from last week’s loss at Gulf Shores. The Rams scored on Christian Burnette’s 1-yard run and Jarrett Daughtry’s touchdown pass to Ty Goodwill. Goodwill also had 8 tackles and an assist. EJ King led the Ram defense with 10 tackles and 4 assists. Tyrell Dotson intercepted a pass in the end zone. Jack French is 37-14 in his fifth year at Faith and is just four wins shy of 300 in his career.

FOLEY (2-1) AT BAKER (1-2)

Time/place: 7 p.m. Friday, Hornet Stadium, Mobile

In the past week: Radio – WHEP-AM 1310, El Cangrejo 96.5 FM

In the air: Foley defeated Mary G. Montgomery 43-42 in overtime; Baker defeated Davidson 41-16.

The thin one: Both teams are 1-0 in Class 7A, Region 1 play. The Lions are trying to win their first two regional games for the first time since 2015. Baker hasn’t won his first two regional games since 2014. … The Lions The Hornets have won the last four games against Foley and seven of the last eight. However, the Lions won the first 14 and led the overall series 17-8. … In last week’s bonus win, QB Reece Tynes completed 26 of 42 passes for 334 yards and 6 TDs. Alabama junior WR Perry Thompson caught 11 passes for 179 yards and 3 TDs. His teammate Harrison Knight had 7 receptions for 61 yards and 2 TDs. The Lions finished with 504 total yards. … Junior QB Josh Flowers rushed for 2 TDs and passed for another in Baker’s win. He scored on runs of 7 and 33 yards and threw an 8-yard TD pass to Cameron Ward. Flowers has thrown for 470 yards this season and rushed for 377. He has 6 combined touchdowns. The Hornets capitalized on 5 turnovers from Davidson. Baker is playing his third straight game at Hornet Stadium, although last week’s game was technically a Davidson home game.

GULF SHORES (3-0) AT UMS-WRIGHT (3-0)

In the past week: Gulf Shores defeated Faith Academy 22-12; UMS-Wright defeated LeFlore 39-0.

In the air: Radio – Sports Talk 99.5 FM

The thin one: Gulf Shores is off to a 2-0 start in Class 5A, Region 1. UMS is 1-0. … The Bulldogs are 6-0 all-time against the Dolphins, though the two teams haven’t played since 2007. … Gulf Shores has never started 4-0. Last week, quarterback Brendon Byrd rushed for 134 yards on 18 carries and JR Gardner had a pair of touchdowns for the Dolphins. Gardner finished with 96 yards on 15 carries. Ronnie Royal had 71 yards and a TD on 12 carries. The Dolphins finished with 297 rushing yards. … UMS coach Terry Curtis is now 7 wins away from tying former Vestavia Hills coach Buddy Anderson for the most wins all-time at 346. Senior RB Cole Blaylock has rushed for 563 yards and 10 TDs in 3 games. He also has a kickoff return to score. John Charles Erwin leads the team in tackles with 31. Thomas Hall has 29. UMS’ defense has limited opponents to just 22 percent on third-down conversions and forced 8 turnovers.

STRONG SPANISH (2-1) IN SARALAND (3-0)

Time/place: 7 p.m. Friday, Spartan Stadium, Saraland

In the past week: Spanish Fort defeated Baldwin County 42-7; Saraland defeated St. Paul’s 42-14

In the air: TV – WJTC-UTV 44

The thin one: Both teams are 2-0 in the Class 6A, Region 1 race. Spanish Fort or Saraland have either won or shared the 6A, Region 1 title every year since 2014. Spanish Fort leads the series with Saraland 8-3 and has a record 0-4 at Saraland. … The Bulls’ only loss this season came in a Pick 6 start against Fairhope in the season opener. Spanish Fort has outscored its two regional opponents (Blount and Baldwin County) 58-13. In last week’s win over the Tigers, UAB commitment Jake Godfrey rushed for 195 yards on 19 carries and caught a TD pass. Godfrey finished with 3 TDs. … Saraland has outscored opponents 134-57 this season. Second-year quarterback KJ Lacey is completing 69 percent of his passes for 737 yards and 10 TDs. He has yet to throw an interception. WR Ryan Williams, also a sophomore, has 20 receptions for 270 yards and 6 TDs and has rushed 7 times for 124 yards and 3 TDs. RB Santae McWilliams has rushed for 218 yards and 2 TDs on 46 carries. … Jeff Kelly is 107-34 in his 12th year at Saraland.

WILLIAMSON (3-0) IN FORCE (2-1)

Time/place: 7 p.m. Friday, Harris-Terry Stadium, Eight Mile

In the past week: Williamson defeated Elberta 20-0; Vigor defeated Citronelle 33-7.

In the air: N/A

The thin one: Williamson is 2-0 in Class 5A, Region 1 and has outscored both of his regional opponents 60-0. The vigor is 1-1. … Vigor has won seven of the last eight games between the two teams, including last year’s 28-12 victory. That game began at Ladd-Peebles Stadium but ended four days later at Theodore after it was interrupted by a shooting in Ladd’s concourse. … In Williamson’s win over Elberta last week, Darryon Pough rushed for two touchdowns and also recovered a fumble on defense. Quarterback Jeremy Williamson completed 16 of 29 passes for 165 yards. He also had a 40-yard touchdown run in the second half to seal the win. … The Wolves bounced back from a loss to BC Rain with an away win at Citronelle. Kevin Brisker was 8 of 11 for 128 yards and a TD. Jacori Barnes charged 15 times for 117 yards and a TD. Brandon Purifoy led the defense with 9 tackles, 3 TFLs and a sack.
