Fair food is the best cheat food. Although we all know it’s unhealthy, everyone has a guilty pleasure. What is your favorite? Until now, 30.6% love Funnel Cake, 22.4% we expect candy apples, 14.2% eat corndogs, and 6.1% look for guacamole. 4.1% they each eat cotton candy, tri-tip sandwiches, or cheesecake. Finally, 2% everyone prefers cheesy guacamole, fried cheese curds, turkey thighs, a fried bacon-wrapped pickle, cinnamon rolls, or pork chop on a stick. The rest have the willpower to stay away from just food.

- Unless the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 99 reach a meeting of minds, you will have your children home next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. At a Wednesday rally in Grand Park, the union announced its intention to go on strike. United Teachers Los Angeles already put on record that its members would not cross the picket lines. “SEIU officials are calling for a 30% pay increase across the board.” (Patch)
- Metro officials are trying something new to rid the Westlake/MacArthur Station of drug dealers and anyone seeking refuge: classical music. “The idea is to create an atmosphere that is comfortable for short periods of time transiting our station, but not conducive to lounging around for hours,” the officials explained. The next time you step out of the red or purple line, you’re bound to hear it. (Main topics)
- the Angels street vendors are challenging the no-sale zones the City has installed in specific areas. For example, they can’t come without 500 feet of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The sellers say they have paid for the permits. The city says the sale could worsen crowding and traffic congestion in some areas. The court denied the City’s motion to dismiss the sellers’ lawsuit on a technicality. (KTLA)
- On Monday, Councilwoman Mónica Rodríguez cut the ribbon for safety improvements at the intersection of Paddock, Oro Grande and Astoria streets. They represent just one of several improvements to San Fernando Road. In collaboration with the Sylmar Neighborhood Council and the Tía Chucha Cultural Center, you’ll notice that the marked crosswalk features colors and “high-visibility symbols of ‘Xochitl,’ which means flower, and ‘Ollin,’ which means movement.” Next up will be art installations and lighting. - Speaking of Councilwoman Mónica Rodríguez, she proposed a P-22 memorial during Wednesday’s City Council meeting. The installation would honor the big cat at Griffith Park. Possible options include a statue that could be placed near the Griffith Observatory on the Tom LaBonge Panorama Trail. The proverbial ball is now in the court of the Neighborhood and Community Enrichment Committee. (Patch)
